Olivier Strebelle | tribute & exhibition
Olivier & his own death:
"Don't make a fuss of it" (he said)
To remain faithfull to its concept, art stories | gallery proposes again a duet, a particular one indeed, but universal. The exhibition will take place from
January 25 to April 14, 2018.
For many years Olivier Strebelle and I had long conversations, especially about death. A word still taboo but inseparable from his work even if people consider it obviously as synonymous with life and freedom.
Olivier Strebelle was not afraid of death because he built a work that was strong enough to survive and resist the erosion of matter and time.
All his life, he defied death even in the choice of almost indestructible materials (bronze, inox ...). Objectively, he made death his ally. A less direct synonym would be: "eternity" but it would not be fair in relation to the last words that he told me in full awareness and right in the eyes as he was leaving us: "don't make a fuss of it .. " (malika es-saidi)
art stories | gallery proposes as part of the exhibition tribute original unpublished sketches as well as works in bronze and mock up.
Performance
The 27th of January 2018, Ellada Damianou, performer and danser, paid a tribute the avant-garde works of Olivier Strebelle. Indeed he conceived in the early seventies portable sculptures. Ellada has studied dance at P.A.R.T.S, Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker's school.
